10 Free Things to Do in Prague
Prague has long been a budget traveler's paradise, but prices are increasing for admission to some of the bigger attractions like St Vitus Cathedral, Strahov Library and the Prague Jewish Museum. Luckily there are still plenty of free things to do in the city. Here are some of the best:
Enjoy the atmosphere on Charles Bridge Stroll – others would say amble – across the famed, 650-year-old Charles Bridge, decorated with baroque statues and lined with buskers and artists. For a great view, go to the riverbank behind the Franz Kafka Museum.
See the Astronomical Clock
Check the legendary Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square. Beyond an hourly spectacle, enjoy the detailed design and meanings of the many dials, showing time, zodiac, moon phase, and much else.
Experience David Černý's Public Art
Seek out provocative modern art by David Černý located throughout the city of Prague: Kůň in Lucerna Palace, the turning Franz Kafka head near metro Národní třída station, and faceless babies on the TV Tower in Žižkov and Kampa Island. Glide up Petřín Hill for wonderful views over the city.
Hike or take the funicular up Petřín Hill to enjoy woodland paths, rose gardens, and panoramic views of Prague. Not missing the Hunger Wall, a historic structure dating back to 1362.
Explore the grounds of Prague Castle for free
Although most areas of Prague Castle require a ticket, you're free to roam the grounds and gardens, also including Golden Lane after hours when it is quieter.
Meander the cobbelstones of Nový Svět Quarter
This romantic quarter, located just near Prague Castle, contains cobblestone streets and 16th-century houses with remains of the old city walls, a small garden, and a children's park as well as this sweet petit cafe.
Take a tour around Vyšehrad Citadel
